Health care just for students

Kaiser Permanente created the Student Health Plan with Deductible specifically for you. It offers flexible deductible HMO coverage and a lot of convenient online services, programs, and resources that make it easy to take care of your health. Be sure to check out the plan details.

How it works

The Kaiser Permanente Student Health Plan is a deductible HMO plan. It has a deductible, or fixed amount, that you pay for care or services in a calendar year before we start paying for certain covered services.

The advantage of a deductible HMO plan is that, while you may pay more for care until you reach your deductible, you pay lower premiums. So depending on your health care needs, you may get your coverage at a price that better fits your budget.

Starting at the beginning of each calendar year, you pay the full charges for certain covered services until you reach your deductible. (For most visits to your doctor's office and some preventive care services, you'll pay only a copay or coinsurance, even if you haven't met your deductible)

Once you meet your deductible for the year, you'll pay either a copay or coinsurance for most covered services. On January 1 of the next year, you'll start over and pay the full charges for certain covered services until you reach your deductible again.

Year-round coverage

  • On campus. If your school has a health center, you can go there for care whenever it's open (though services received there won't be covered under the Student Health Plan). At your request, we'll collaborate with campus staff to promote a smooth transfer of care if you receive care at an on-campus student health center and then decide to visit one of our facilities.

  • At Kaiser Permanente facilities. You always have access to care through Kaiser Permanente. With your electronic health record, your health care team has immediate access to the most up-to-date information about your health, so they can provide you with quality care for your needs.

Emergency care

No matter where you are, you are covered for emergency care 24/7.1

See how easy it is to stay healthy

Enrolling is simple. You don't need a medical examination to join the plan, and your school will bill you for the premium. Plus, you can add a spouse and children to your plan if coverage for dependents is offered at your school.

Once you've enrolled, you'll get tools and services that can help make getting care easier.

  • Choose a personal physician who's right for you—and get an entire team of nurses, providers, and health educators.

  • For your convenience, in many locations, we offer most health services under one roof, such as primary care, lab tests, X-rays, and pharmacy services.

  • Use kp.org 24/7 to e-mail your doctor's office and schedule routine appointments.

  • Fill your prescriptions at Kaiser Permanente pharmacies, or order refills online at kp.org—just pay a simple copay.

A wealth of wellness

There's more to being healthy than not being sick. That's why we give you services, programs, and resources that make it easy for you to live well.

  • Check out our online health encyclopedia and learn about popular health topics, like nutrition, preventive care, women's health, fighting depression, and much more.

  • Use our online symptom checker to find out whether you have the signs of common health conditions.

  • Participate in online wellness programs to help you eat healthier, reduce stress, lose weight, and sleep better.
